As we prepare for our next Summit, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on memorable conversations from Summit 2017 with some of our previous speakers that we hope sparked future actions towards student success optimization.
In our first Summit flashback, Mark Milliron, Co-founder and Chief Learning Officer, and Daniel Greenstein, Director of Education for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, explore momentum around increasing student success and minimizing equity gaps through college completion vs. continued focus on accessibility.
Greenstein mentions that this year, one of his personal goals will be to share proven student success initiatives with the community of practice. By sharing these narratives, the community at large can piece together actionable steps to further the student success agenda, while also opening more opportunities for all student demographics.
He believes the people attending events like the Civitas Learning Summit are disruptive changemakers — who are actively shaping the critical conversations happening around student outcomes. To move the needle on student outcomes, higher ed must be willing to change what has historically been done and shift to a mindset of readiness and collaboration.
Greenstein challenges us to not only think about how we inform investors, like the Gates Foundation, who can assist the next cohort of institutions move forward to accelerate and scale the process, but also not to waste time studying these new practices and start taking action.
